Evita Bezuidenhout for President of South Africa in ‘09

Jetstreaker, 15 January 2007

South Africa’s most famous and fabulous drag queen character, creation and alter-ego of comedian and satirist Pieter Dirk-Uys, is planning to announce her bid for the 2009 presidency at a highly anticipated press conference to take place in Cape Town later this week. Several reports state that “coffee, tea and koeksisters” will be served at the “international” conference.

According to Diva’s Allison Foat, the “most famous white woman in South Africa” will launch her bid for the presidency at the Spier Summer Festival which is being held from 25 to 28 January.

The bid — Evita for President — has set the legendary old “boerekat” among the ambitious black economic empowerment pigeons, said Foat.

At last! A candidate we can vote for! And a woman with balls, no less!

And apparently we’re not the only ones who thinks Evita will be worthy of our votes. “Since announcing her plans to make herself available as a compromise choice for president of South Africa in 2009, Evita Bezuidenhout has been overwhelmed with messages of support,” a statement read.

We actually think Evita’s campaign will be less of a farce than those of some of the other, more “serious” candidates.

One thing’s for certain: Politics should be no drag with Evita around.
