REVIEW OF ADAPT OR FLY  in GRAHAMSTOWN — FEBRUARY 2012

Adapt or Fly
– Mike Loewe, Algoa FM News, 16 February 2012

Renowned entertainer and political satirist Pieter-Dirk Uys has warned that South Africa must take Julius Malema as seriously as the world should have taken Adolf Hitler in the 30s.

The prolific Uys, fondly known as Evita Bezuidenhout, has been touring the province with his latest satire Adapt or Fly.

This is one of his most ominous and hilarious works.  The son of a Jewish mother and Afrikaner father, Uys is telling audiences that Malema is an outright fascist, just like Mussolini and Hitler.

But the bigger problem, he says on stage, is that South Africa and its spiralling conditions of poverty are creating the space for leaders like Malema.

In an interview with AlgoaFM he says South Africans must realise that freedoms are fragile and should be exercised and fought for every day.  PD U also said we should take Malema “very, very seriously”.

His comparison of Afrikaner apartheid heads of state with new ANC leaders with their arms deals and Protection of Information Bills, is drawing wide support — especially from young black audiences in the Eastern Cape.
