Pieter-Dirk Uys slams spoilt vote campaign
South African satirist and social activist Pieter-Dirk Uys has slammed a newly launched spoilt vote campaign aimed at the ANC describing it as ‘pointless’.

Former intelligence minister Ronnie Kasrils and former deputy health minister Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge have spearheaded the “Sidikiwe! Vukani! Vote Campaign” launched today in Johannesburg.

They are calling on South Africans to either spoil their May 7 ballot or vote for smaller parties.  

Uys says a spoilt vote turns a precious ballot into a piece of political toilet paper.

“I’m sorry, that to me is just unnecessary because there are so many people who died for us to have this opportunity, to have freedom of expression.

“I can’t understand how somebody can’t use their vote in a creative way. And I think we need to do our homework and not just sit back and say we will punish the ANC by not voting or spoiling the paper,” he said.
